Aschan Coffee & Deli is one of the cafe chain customers of Zoined. Aschan took Zoined Analytics Service in use to improve how they follow and plan their business.

Aschan was founded already in the 1930s and the chain has evolved constantly while answering to their customers’ expectations. One of the key persons in Aschan Coffee & Deli organization is the chain manager Tommi Harju, who is responsible for the daily operations of the cafe chain. He knows what it takes to succeed in this line of business. ”Customer satisfaction is the most important thing. Our cafes offer a break from the usual working day in a nice and cosy environment where the service is good”, he tells. All the cafes are committed to offering high quality products and a few of the 18 Aschan cafes serve lunch as well.

Earlier Aschan used traditional reporting tools for decision making support – meaning reports from the POS system combined with use of Excel. In spring of 2014 Aschan got to try out Zoined’s analytics service and that brought an instant relief for managing the chain operations. According to Tommi Harju “the service is extremely important for both daily management and for planning the future”.

Zoined’s service mainly helps the chain management but the reports are also available for everyone else in the organization. The staff sees from the daily, weekly and monthly follow-ups how their own cafe has performed. Sales, efficiency and average purchase size development can be compared with other stores in the top-listings which leads to friendly competition when everyone wants to get their own cafe to be on the top.

The value of the service grew again when in addition to the sales data from a Point-of-Sale (PoS) system also the working hours were brought to be analysed from a separate time management system. Aschan is satisfied with the constantly developing service, which gets new features implemented also based on the users’ wishes. “The hourly time pressure reported from sales data is used in planning. We have saved many working hours and what’s most important, the hours have been allocated better”, Mr. Harju says.

In the future the Zoined analytics service will be used at Aschan to understand the customer behaviour in more detail. There are also plans to have a more significant role for the service in the area managers’ daily use. According to Mr. Harju it takes about half an hour to train someone to use the service and the training can be provided also via phone. He likes the fact that the service is meant for data analysis in a way that the user can’t accidentally delete or change the data in the PoS system itself.
